FAQs

How does the multiphase flow meter handle high gas volume fraction (GVF) conditions without compromising measurement accuracy?

Kenco’s multiphase flow meters are designed to operate across a wide GVF range, typically up to 99% (wet gas). The meter employs a combination of gamma-ray attenuation and Venturi-based differential pressure measurement to determine phase fractions even under slug flow or high-GVF conditions. Wet gas correction algorithms are applied in real time to compensate for liquid loading on the gas measurement, ensuring accuracy is maintained without the need for upstream separation.

The meter is capable of handling all common multiphase flow regimes including stratified, annular, dispersed bubble, and slug flow. During slug flow events — which cause rapid fluctuations in phase fractions and velocity — the meter’s high-frequency data acquisition system captures transient behavior and applies dynamic averaging to produce stable, representative flow rate outputs. This eliminates the need for slug catchers upstream of the meter in most applications.

Kenco’s multiphase flow meters are engineered to meet stringent industry accuracy standards, typically achieving liquid flow measurement within ±2–5% and gas flow within ±5%, depending on operating conditions and fluid composition. Periodic calibration is recommended to maintain peak accuracy, and our service team provides on-site or factory calibration support. We also offer flow-loop testing and digital wet-gas correction to handle high-GVF (gas volume fraction) conditions.
